Good morning,
Anyone want a cookie? Let’s say you do and you like chocolate chip. Let’s say you actually want to bake the cookies from scratch. First thing you need is a recipe. Next, a bowl and some measuring things, all the ingredients and directions, a cookie sheet, and, last but just as important as all the rest, an oven. What do you get when they come out of the oven and you have followed the recipe?? Delicious, mouth-watering cookies!!
We all know that every single thing needed for delicious cookies are all the things needed for delicious cookies!! You cannot leave out soda–very bad if left out. If you add too much soda–very bad!! The ingredients are not so good raw or just by themselves. Even if you want to cook the cookies for an hour, it will not work–they would be ruined even though you used all the right stuff and methods. You can’t just do what you want! You have to do all the things according to the recipe no matter how much you want to or not! The ingredients and the directions are the things needed so we get our fruit from our effort.
The Bible is our recipe book. God has given us the instructions on how to pray. How to be eternally with Him. He has given us all the recipes for whatever you need and the recipe for how to live in all circumstances. Some seem odd like: Give and you will receive. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Pride comes before a fall. Stop being afraid, I AM. My unmerited favor and grace I give to you.
Let’s do one recipe for praying for something you desire that lines up with God’s word. You can’t pray for your crabby neighbor or boss to be struck by lightning! That does not line up with God’s word. Things that do line up: your health, your marriage, your money, your family and children, your friends, your country, your desire…

The Bible says faith is what God desires from us. Not some mind game that if I believe something is real, when it isn’t, so that it will become real. God gave Jesus, who did everything (past tense… 2,000 years ago) needed for our spirit to be healed, saved, prosper, etc… Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to anyone who believed in Him. When you believe that the Holy Spirit releases power, so you receive, you have understood faith/the recipe/scripture. God may use ingredients like doctors, medicine, miracle, people, food, jobs, whatever, depending on what you desired.
But, your prayer was answered when you took that scripture and applied it to yourself. Believing you received them is the part, like soda in a cookie, that is very necessary! Most of us have faith. Believing is different. Reminder: Each of us has our own will. You can pray for someone to be well or stop drugs, but they have a say. You are in charge of your will and what you believe. This is personal to you.
Love you, Teri
