Good morning,
Our family just got back from a trip overseas and I brought along a new book I picked up titled The Prayer of Protection: Living Fearlessly in Dangerous Times. I didn’t open the book until I was on the plane. It is all about Psalm 91. Now, I have known about Psalm 91 since six years ago when my dad retired and started to join us for Bible Study every Friday.
My dad told us his mother made him read every morning, out loud with her, Psalm 91 until he had all 16 verses memorized. At 80 he could still recite it as he told us this story. She wanted her boys to say that scripture in the morning so she knew they were protected as they left her for the day.
As I read this book, that is exactly what the author was writing about. Faith involves believing in your heart as well as speaking with your mouth!
My dad’s mother knew that her boys not only needed to memorize that wonderful Psalm, but apply it!! Say it out loud over themselves!
When we are faced with darkness in any area of our lives today or trapped in a storm of challenges, we shouldn’t be looking at the problems and despairing. We should be calling forth what we want to see! If we find ourselves caught in a dangerous situation, we should declare, “The Lord is my refuge and my fortress.”
I did Psalm 91 at the airport over all of us as we were walking toward the gate. I know how powerful this Psalm is and it was so fun to open this book and have it reiterate what I already knew. I was free then to relax, know that I was under protection, my family under protection, we had angels all around us so no problem there, I could let go of all anxiety about what lay ahead and enjoy my trip from start to finish. We even got an extra day to see Amsterdam because of fog that forced a layover, sleep great in a hotel, and have a wonderful flight the next day returning at midday.
The more we learn to do our part as a Christ follower, the more we are able to rest.
Psalm 91 is protection over right place, right time. It shall not come near you, fearless living, dwell safely in Christ our refuge, activating angels, offense, protected by the Father’s love, wisdom to stay safe, and much more.
I have Psalm 91 printed out and framed in my main bathroom so it reminds me to speak what I have!!!! Below I attached Psalm 91 from The Message Bible. The Message Bible speaks in our modern language so it is very plain to read what it means. You don’t need to memorize every verse perfectly to start saying it. The Psalm has verses for sickness, protection, angels, your home, your money, your mental state, everything we need is in there.
Just like my dad’s mother almost 100 years ago knew… speak out over yourself and your loved ones because faith is believing and speaking out activates God’s promises to you. We have to stop begging God for things He has already given us!!
We have authority as believers and our words command that authority. The more we trust God, the more we realize fear, guilt, regret is a waste of time. God wants me so supplied, happy, courageous, loving, in his favor so I can spend my time thanking Him, praising His wonderful gifts, and loving His people and walking through any circumstance willing to reach out and help those I can and pray for those who need Him!!!
Love you, Teri
1-13:
You who sit down in the High God’s presence,
spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow,
Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.
I trust in you and I’m safe!”
That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
under them you’re perfectly safe;
his arms fend off all harm.
Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
not disaster that erupts at high noon.
Even though others succumb all around,
drop like flies right and left,
no harm will even graze you.
You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
watch the wicked turn into corpses.
Yes, because God’s your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can’t get close to you,
harm can’t get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they’ll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
and kick young lions and serpents from the path.
14-16:
“If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
“I’ll get you out of any trouble.
I’ll give you the best of care
if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I’ll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!”
