Good morning,
Steve and our son Jack just finished a great week of traveling with the Timberwolves and friends to Boston and Miami. In Miami, Steve was headed to Minnesota and Jack, back to Arizona for college. They had three bags of luggage: two black bags just the same from the T-wolves and one red one. Long story short. Jack’s bag ended up with Steve, and the other two ended up in Atlanta. After a three-way conversation with the baggage claim, managers, etc., it was like playing, “Who’s on first? What’s on second?” and nothing working right. It is now Tuesday and the three bags have been to Minnesota, Atlanta, Arizona, and not to Chicago where one needed to go!!
Every time they talked to the airport, “No problem, sir. We have this all figured out,” and evidently, they did not!
We have all had luggage stories!! I am sure it is a miracle that it usually works, but when you talk to someone and it sounds like they understand, will take care of it, and it should be no problem… it is not!
I think following Christ can be like that for some of us. You think you understand what you have as a Christ follower, know you should pray about everything, worry about nothing, give thanks in every circumstance and believe that you are forgiven, loved, and saved… Why still do we screw up??
I think it is because life is complicated, lots of people in it and we learn best from our pain and screw-ups.
I was watching a movie and all these people were trapped in different elevators when a big power outage happened in New York. It showed how having no control about getting out, made them sit down, talk, reflect, and truly decided about some things in their life. Without the uncomfortable time of being forced to stop, they would have just kept moving.
We have to sometimes just go for a walk without our phone. Play with our kids without distractions. Make time for ourselves without distractions. Cut people some slack and laugh at the ridiculousness of situations sometimes. A good belly laugh is good for the soul and a much better action than anger sometimes. Let’s learn what are we doing that is keeping us from getting the baggage, if you will, to its right destination and on time.
