Love Plane Rides

Good morning,

I just got back from a trip out to California and I love to take the three-hour flight and just read a Christian book or the Bible. My sister-in-law Anne had given me the book, Jesus Calling a few years ago and I had not really read it more than a few devotionals. I brought it with because many people lately had asked me if I loved the book. I do love the book!!! I took the time to read the introduction. The author explained that she is writing from the perspective of Jesus speaking, to help readers feel more personally connected with Him. So, the first-person singular (“I,” “Me,” “Mine”) always refers to Christ; “you” refers to the reader.

I just started in “January,” because I had the time and I wondered what the author’s style was going to be. As I read the short devotion for that day, I just started underlining what was standing out to me in the paragraph. I will write below, just for part of January, what I underlined only. Reading it later, only the parts I underlined:

I loved what Jesus was saying to me:

Desire the balm of Jesus’ Peace.

Seek my face.

I trust you Jesus.

True dependence is not simply asking Me to bless what you have decided to do. It is coming to Me with an open mind and heart, inviting Me to plant My desires within you.

Ask my Spirit to control your mind, so that you can think great thoughts of Me.

Lean on me as much as you need.

A thankful heart has plenty of room for me.

Hope in Me, and you will be protected from depression and self-pity. Hope is a golden cord connecting you to heaven.

I am with you and for you. Ask Me to show you the path forward, moment by moment. Slow down and enjoy the journey in My Presence.

Every time you affirm your trust in Me, you put a coin into my treasury.

Let Me prepare you for the day that stretches out before you.

Spend quality time with Me.

A life lived close to Me will never be dull or predictable. The safest place to be is by My side.

My face is shining upon you.

Come to Me and rest in My loving presence. Rehearsing your troubles result in experiencing them many times. Do not multiply your suffering in this way! Instead, come to Me, and relax in My Peace.

Your assignment is to follow Me. Stay close to Me.

My nature is to bless. Your nature is to receive with thanksgiving. Include Me in all your moments.

Approach this day with awareness of Who is boss. Don’t try to figure out what is happening. Simply trust Me and thank Me in advance for the good that will come out of it all.

I want you to be all Mine.

After spending three hours just reading from the book and underlining what was standing out to me, I had the peace and love of Christ and an understanding that we really are only promised today. Make sure you are fully present, thankful, enjoying, and delighting in the family, friends, coworkers, and people helping you with simple things like a cup of coffee, but mostly that Christ is with you, for you, and nothing is able to take Him from you!!

Love you, Teri
