What Does Coffee Have to Do With It?

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a wonderful, heart-filling Thanksgiving! I went to get a coffee this morning at my favorite spot and I asked Marissa, the gal waiting on me, if she had a good Thanksgiving. She said she did. Then she said she heard I had a ranch and wondered if I spent Thanksgiving there. I said, “We do and I did–and how did you know that?” She said, “The manager told me you most likely would not be in on Friday because you would probably be at the ranch.”

This little two-minute conversation made me smile in my heart for several reasons.

One: I love the people at the coffee store. My encounter with them is through a window for a few minutes each day but we have a relationship. I know quite a bit about each one of them, like who has kids, who is finishing college, who is thinking about college, who has dogs, surgery, fun trips, sad events, and so on. I kind of forget that they know and care about me, too!

Two: I love them–they actually talked about the fact that I would not be coming for coffee. How sweet is that?

Three: Their job is serving people. Humble, gracious, early (very early hours) and they are some of the most friendly, happy, calm people around. They are servants who get to help start your day with a rich taste and great fragrance.

The sermon on Sunday at our Westwood Community Church was about the story of Christmas and the birth of Christ. They are breaking down the story into five parts and really giving us an understanding of this enormous gift! I took away many things but this point, Christ coming as a King of all kings but none of the earthly pomp a king usually has, stuck with me. He is announced to shepherds, not noblemen or scholars. Born in a barn with animals and hay instead of a palace with white sheets and fluffy crib. His parents are poor and his limousine is a donkey!

Why did God do this?

Because Jesus came to be a servant!! To mingle and eat and live and talk with everybody. He came to relate to the hurting, lost, lowest of low, and for the scholars, rich, and fortunate people, too! He came to serve us!! How incredible is that?? Most people just can’t believe it. He came so we could have a soul that is well! But remember, just like the people who serve me coffee, Jesus loves us to care about Him, the servant, too! Say thank you! Read the Word and learn about Him. Say: I love you, Jesus! He wants a relationship with you and me!!! Maybe have coffee with Him each morning and get your day started with His rich taste and amazing fragrance. Maybe serve someone today and realize serving is so good for you.

Luke 1:79: Because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high…

Love you, Teri
