Be a Batter

Good morning,

I love this new book I have, “I am.” -Jesus. It is a study in the book of John where Jesus makes seven, I AM statements. Anyway, I am still on #1: The Bread of Life. What I like about this book is it will say: Look up John 6:6. Why does John insert this comment? He does it so you have to go to John 6:6 and find out what is going on. The book doesn’t tell you what is happening or provide scripture. The whole point of the study in John is to get you to open your Bible and find it for yourself. In doing that I kept reading and in 6:25-40, I loved reading that what we have to do, is the opposite of toiling and doing and producing. The gist of it is the people were asking Jesus what they were supposed to do to be fed this Bread of Life? In verse 29, He answers saying, “This is the work (service) that God asks of you: That you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you adhere to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger.”

That is what God wants you to do!! Believe in, adhere to, trust in, and rely on Jesus. I remember it as B.A.T.R. Batter–like in baseball. Doesn’t that seem so easy? Most of us think we have to be good, do charity, not swear, dress a certain way, have perfect church attendance, pray so many hours a day, stop smoking, stop drinking, stop laughing, change friends… and then we will earn the Bread of Life.

GOD LOVES US FIRST. Just like, only more so, parents love a new baby years before that baby can figure out why you love them so much. Jesus says, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and adheres to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time). For this is My Father’s will and His purpose, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in and adheres to and trusts in and relies on Him should have eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day.” When you B.A.T.R., you get supplied, supplied people love, because they are loved first and that makes you want to be kind, respect yourself and others, want to give up habits that hurt you, want to go to church because it fills you up hearing the Word, and laugh because good friends are wonderful and prayer is our personal cell number to God. Be a B.A.T.R.–you’ll knock it out of the park!!

Love you, Teri
