Good morning,
Today’s teaching my husband, Steve, sent me because he thought it was “really a good one,” as he likes to call them. Couple things: I agree it is a good one and I am also so happy that he has devotionals that he reads every day, too. It makes me think about when we become Christians, we know that we asked Christ into our life, but sometimes from the outside we think, “Am I supposed to start reading the Bible so many hours a day or start quoting scripture that I have to memorize?” Stop right there. That is not how it works. What happens is we get thirsty for finding out what Christ has to say. When a person really wants to know Jesus, as a friend, you want to spend time finding out what this friend is all about. The biggest surprise is that when you start to find out what Jesus is all about, you can hardly believe it! He makes so much sense! He has something to say about every facet of our life.
Today the teaching is about sharpening your skills. Pursuing what you love. Not getting trapped. Really good things Christ wants us to learn about. Our Charlie is doing this as he grows into his mid-20s. He did a charity event for part of his birthday celebration and posted an Instagram on Monday. The picture he used is him on a ladder in the top peak of a ceiling, sanding with a mask on. What he wrote under the picture says so much about growing up, finding balance, giving being so fulfilling, learning skills, and what makes you happy. I quote Charlie’s Instagram, “One part businessman, one part construction worker. One part luxury life, one part redneck life. It’s a confusing world I have made for myself, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thanks again to everyone who turned up for my birthday celebration and charity event. I’d be nothing without my family and friends.”
I just keep learning that Christ is truth and if I model my life after His example, I am filled with joy and peace that passes all understanding. I know many, many of you understand this, too!
Love you, Teri
Sharpen Your Skills
TODAY¹S SCRIPTURE
³Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings…²
(Proverbs 22:29, NIV)
TODAY¹S WORD
Too often, it¹s easy to get stuck in a rut, doing the same thing the same way over and over every day. But if we are going to live at our absolute best, we should constantly be growing and sharpening our skills. We should strive to learn and grow every single day because when we stop learning, we stop growing. When we stop growing, we stop living.
What are you doing to stretch yourself? What are you doing to improve your skills? Don¹t get trapped into thinking that ³good enough² is good enough. You were created for more than just average. Today is a new day, and there are new heights for you to climb. Pursue what you love and keep developing that area of your life. Take a class or find a mentor that will help you live skillfully. As scripture promises, you¹ll go before leaders and rulers and excel in every area of life!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, today I resist mediocrity. I choose to give my very best to everything I do. Teach me to live skillfully so that my life is a continual praise to You in Jesus¹ name. Amen.
