Good morning,
Last night Steve and I had dinner with his mom and sister, Mary. I was telling Mary that on Friday night, Pastor Joel and his wife Keri had done a blessing for our friend David Fhima’s new restaurant downtown. The idea of blessing the new restaurant came on Joel’s birthday in December when Joel had received a special cake from David and they talked about the new restaurant. There was such a feeling of hope at the table with David’s wife Lori, his son Eli, Keri, Steve and myself. When we invite God into our life, place of business, friendships, and relationships it gives lift and peace. Later that night we all went to the Timberwolves game and I saw a friend of mine who has been going through infertility and I asked her if she would like Pastor Joel to pray over her? She looked at me kind of startled, like this was the last thing she would have ever imagined happening at the Timberwolves game. Joel agreed to pray for her and her husband to be blessed with a child and it only took about 30 seconds and again, such lift and peace.
As I told Mary this story, I was commenting on how nobody made us go all the way downtown that night to offer a blessing to a friend and then offer another prayer. Praying for people, blessing people is a gift you give someone because it puts actions to who you are as a believer. It makes the person being blessed or prayed over feel comforted on a level that only God gives.
Mary told me she understands that, because one night when her three kids were small her oldest daughter was really ill and she had to get them all in the car by herself and head to the doctor. On the way she was right behind a car and she noticed a cane on the bumper. At the stop sign she jumped out, grabbed the cane and knocked on the window. An older gentleman was driving and she said, “I think you left this on your bumper and I don’t want you to lose it.” She told me that he grabbed her hand and looked into her eyes and said, “God bless you!” Mary said, “I so needed those words spoke over me right then!! I was scared and overwhelmed with a very sick child in my car. I don’t think it was a coincidence that the cane was on the bumper and I had the opportunity to give it to him.” I totally agree with her.
We all have a story! We all have the ability of using our words in Jesus’s name!
Love you, Teri
