Good morning,
I watched a movie last night, Five Feet Apart. It’s the story of two teens with CF who fall in love. The characters bring out the best in each other. Only problem is, if you have CF, you can give someone else with CF deadly germs so you always have to be six feet apart, and can never touch! You watch how connection, touch, and communication are gifts that we take for granted! We get so caught up in what people emotionally do for us, or to us, that we think of touch, as breathing. We do it without thinking.
I watched these kids in the hospital think of ways to show love without touch. She did a scavenger hunt for him with notes in balloons. He learned a favorite song and snuck in before her surgery and sang it with her because he knew she was scared. They showed love!
Bob Goff is the author of “Love Does.” Bob lives his life loving people like Jesus loved people. Jesus didn’t live to bust people’s chops. He loved them by including them, talking to them, having dinner with the worst sinners. He healed anyone who was sick. He forgave anyone who asked for it.
We get to touch people! We get to love people like Jesus did! Before it’s too late, make the choice to touch who you can. Maybe it won’t be with our hands, but we all can lay down our hate, annoyances–whatever–and positively make a decision to smile at the next person you see after you read this. Pass out some cookies. Pick a flower and hand it to a stranger. Pay for someone’s coffee! You can make someone’s day, so do it! Funny how it will make your day in return!
Love you, Teri
