Good morning,
I was watching a show last night with Tyler Perry in it. He created and preforms the Madea character, a tough, hilarious, elderly black woman. Forbes, in 2011, listed him as the highest paid man in entertainment, earning over $130 million between May 2010 and May 2011. The reason I tell you that is because he was talking about his start in life. He had a very abusive father and his mother was his solid love and anchor. His mother wanted him to work for the telephone company. She would tell him to quit daydreaming and get a real job with security. He laughs all the time about his Mama in her later years, thanking him for all the wonderful things he provided for her… Maybe it was good he didn’t work for the phone company!!
Tyler spent most of the interview talking about our self-worth. Our worth, our value in our heart and mind is what really sets us free. Jesus came to tell us how valuable we are to God! No matter what a negative family, parent, friend, spouse, boss, or customer tells us, our worth comes from who we believe!
Once we believe and know our worth we can forgive people! Some people like Tyler spent his time being fueled by his anger toward his father. He would repeat, “I will prove him wrong!” When he forgave his dad and saw his dad as a human being that was so damaged and not given the tools for his life to love people, let alone forgive people or be a victor, Tyler could forgive him by looking at him this way. But the big question was: How do I continue without that anger driving me?
He explained he found his worth and drive not in anger anymore, but in the overwhelming fact that the Bible says: He is loved, he is a conqueror. He is wise and filled with Godly wisdom. He is the head and not the tail. If God is for him, who could be against him. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Tyler could succeed in confidence. He could be grateful for the bad things in his life that had taught him!!!
My worth, your worth is more than silver or gold. We are children of the most high God! We get to swim in that liquid love and lay down anger, rebellion, fear and anything else that is heavy and prickly! We can live grateful in any circumstance, which only comes when Christ is leading us and telling us our worth. Hallelujah!
Love you, Teri
