Good morning,
Last night our family received a short little video from my dad’s caregiver, Kari. The video was of him looking at the Book of Memories we made for him. Kari texted, “It was a fun night hearing stories of Christmas and Molly the Collie. It was quite the memory party in his room tonight. He sure loves that book.”
In the video he is looking at a picture of the life-size Nativity scene that is made out of wood and sitting in their front yard. He made that with his friend about 10 years ago.
The text was so emotional on different levels. One: I am so glad he has something to tangibly hold and connect with all of his family though. Two: I am so thankful for caregivers who love our loved ones when we can’t go see them. Three: When he looks over his life in pictures and letters he sees all the love he gave and received. I imagine he is so thankful he knows Jesus, the truest picture of love.
It makes me think, “What will my book of memories look like?”
I know, because of my friend Jesus who loves me, has mercy on me, gives me grace and fills my heart with joy, I too can give love, mercy, grace, joy. Through Him I will have so many pictures of people I love and care about as I look back in my twilight years.
With God all things are possible! Jesus in our hearts gives us something better than happiness! He gives us joy! Joy you can have in any circumstance, happiness doesn’t do that. With Christ’s help we can strip off the negative, change what we speak and give thanks instead of critical, angry outlooks. We can be a friend and have friends. The possibilities to grow in love are endless!
We are all writing a book. If you think about today and the page it is writing, why not live it positively, full of expectation of good things and make a memory you want to cherish!
Love you, Teri
