Good morning,
It always amazes me how the unexplainable peace, rest and joy of God shows up in the hard times. It is a subtle thing I become aware of.
We lost our dog, Rocky suddenly after 12 years. He was a Morkie and looked like a puppy because of his furry little self. He had an inoperable tumor in his nose that would not stop bleeding. So sad and final. In the midst of it all I had a unexplainable peace. I was able to know I loved Rocky with my whole heart and had so many years of love and memories that would never go away. I was sad but felt comforted some how.
When everything was happening it didn’t dawn on me that the rest of Jesus is what was helping me. The kind of rest, peace and joy that God brings into our lives isn’t caused by a choice to stoically stomp down the pain during loss. It is a gift the Holy Spirit gives us we can’t help but experience when we Believe in, adhere to, trust in and rely on Jesus.
Hebrews 4:3 says, For we who believe [that is , we who personally trust and confidently rely on God] enter that rest [so we have His inner peace now because we are confident in our salvation and assured of His power, just as he said.
God is good! He wants to have us live in His arms in easy times and hard times.
We bought a new puppy this week and named him, Rollie. He is adorable and our hearts are filled with a new love while we remember our Rocky. We like to say, “We had Rock, now we have Roll.”
The best thing about dogs is they are never forgotten and in our hearts forever!
Love you, Teri
