The Essence

Good morning,

Do you know what the new command Jesus gave us when he walked on earth is? To love one another. It is the essence of the Ten Commandments…They all are what you should NOT DO to people because it has consequences like being stoned to death for one. It is not loving to commit murder, cheat on your spouse, steal from people, etc… Jesus then spent the rest of the time telling people to follow His example of loving and living their life. The Sermon on the Mount was about what you SHOULD DO and what rewards come with it like; comfort when you are forgiven, blessed are the merciful for they receive mercy. etc.. Jesus wants us to believe in, adhere to, trust in and rely on Him while we love people and ourselves. Sounds so easy, right??

We can only love like Jesus if we know Jesus. I am not talking about knowing about Jesus but really knowing Him personally. How do I know Him personally? You pray and talk to Him. You get around other people who Know Him personally. What you find from them is that they do not keep a report card of their good and bad traits. They have an inner joy, they love people. Love for God is authenticated by your love for others. That is how you know you are loving God with all your heart, soul and mind.

Thank God He sent us help in the person of Jesus so we can vertically love God and horizontally love and treat others how we want to be treated. That sounds like the cross doesn’t it?
