Good morning,
I watched a teaching titled, “Soul Food” the other day and it caught my attention. It made me wonder if most of us know how to feed our soul? Do most people know what our soul is?
We all are body, mind, soul.
1. BODY: We know how to feed our body. We do it three times a day. Some do it better than others, but we all know if we don’t get food–protein, vegetables, fruit, grains, liquids, etc.–we will not live. The better we feed our body, the better it will perform. The awesome thing about our body is it will heal itself quickly when we start to do things that help us, not hurt us. If we injure our body, we usually can recover. It just takes time, rest, and sometimes medicine, a cast, stitches, or ice! The body has so many more aspects but in general we understand how to feed and preserve our body.
2. MIND: We know how to feed our mind. We know it takes input and learning. We know what we look at, hear, and think on will go in our mind and we can have knowledge in those areas. We know that if we want to be a dentist, we have to learn all about the teeth and everything to do with the jaw, nerves, blood, enamel, etc. It is complicated and takes thousands of hours to have the mind fed enough to be really experienced in that area. We know our experiences as a child will train our mind, good or bad, how to live in the world. We know our mind is built to think. We also know we can choose, most of the time, what we will fill our mind with.
First two are pretty easy to understand because we do them every day, almost unconsciously. Things to eat, things to fill our mind on. Choices, choices, choices.
But, what about #3? Do we know how to feed our soul? Do we know what nurtures it and what we do that is starving our soul?
3. SOUL: We feed our soul: the part of us that will live on forever by what we let into our heart. The Bible says each of us has a part in our soul that knows God. We have the choice to fill our soul with things He says that will help us to have joy and peace. But, we also have the choice to fill our soul with things not of God. Even if you have asked Christ to be your personal savior and friend, a lot of Christ-filled people do not know how to feed their soul and have heart peace and joy. So here are a few things that will get you in shape!
- Ask and be aware that the Holy Spirit fills your soul. He is perfect and knows all spiritual things. If you become aware of this awesome gift Jesus left this earth to give us, you will have the revelation that one third of you is perfect! I love that!!! It feeds my soul.
- Each day we should feed our soul with some revelation of God. It can be scripture. If you read one chapter of Proverbs each day for two years, you will have so much knowledge of business, life, relationships, and so much more. If you read one verse even of Psalms each day, you will have your heart lifted with things like: The Lord will perfect that which concerns me. (Psalm 138:8) If you listen to Christ-filled music, you will remember tunes and words that go with songs. What a gift that in itself is from God. If you read spiritual message boards, that will encourage you☺. If you have a devotional that you read each day, that will bless your heart. Hope is a gift that the word of God gives to your soul. All of these things feed my soul.
- Helping someone do anything will feed your soul! You can pray, clothe, employ, give, discipline, respect, love, teach… too many things we can give of ourself to count or list. All of them feed my soul.
We are wonderfully and splendidly made. We all have Body, Mind, and Soul. We can choose each day anew, to balance each of these. One thing all three–body, mind, and soul–need, is sleep! One prayer you can pray each night is: Let me have peaceful sleep. Instead of a sleeping pill, try and read some chapters in the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Try reading some Proverbs or Psalms, some 2 Corinthians. All phones or iPads have biblegateway.com. The Message Bible is written in today’s language. The Amplified Bible is written in today’s language. Get some good sleep. Feed your soul so you can have a truly amazing life filled with joy and peace in any circumstance. How cool is that?
Love you, Teri
