My Dad’s Ripple Effect

Good morning,

The last few weeks have been filled with so much change for our family. My sweet dad was moved to a senior care home and my mom is still in her home. After 62 years of marriage that is a big change! It reminds me of throwing a rock into a still pond and watching as the ripple effect goes out all around in every direction.

I put pictures of all our family on a big wall in his apartment as you enter and walk about twenty feet into the main room. As I looked at it, up and finished, I saw a man and woman surrounded by so much family who gather often. My parents have five kids so I put pictures of each of us with our kids. Coffee parties with family and friends. Ranch parties, weddings, all the glimpses into my dad’s ripple as a person on this earth.

My dad chose God to be the center of his existence and then chose a terrific wife and so on.

I feel like he would rather be home but if this is his circumstance, instead of fear, anxiety, or negativity, the good Lord in him has given him the wisdom to be optimistic, be happy to see anyone who walks in to visit, and talk to anyone who will listen about how much he loves his family.

Let’s do life this way. Ask Holy Spirit to give you wisdom in any situation! Get plenty of sleep, speak what you want (not what you don’t want), and above all be thankful for the small things, the big things, the lessons you learn from the hard things and God, who gave us a heart that can be hopeful, filled with love and compassion.

Love you, Teri

  1. I was wondering how this was for your mom; obviously, difficult…..these are the really tough years. Mine are both still in their home, but not sure for how much longer. My husbands Dad has dementia, still at home with his wife and a son managing things….The Blader’s have celebrated everything so no regrets! Love you

    1. My Mom is doing good. He was just too much for her to take with not walking very stable and a bunch of other health stuff. Thankfully he is 4 blocks away and she is getting use to the idea and much needed help. No regrets for sure and everyone is rallying around them. Xo
