Take Time to Enjoy!

Good morning,

Do you remember when we used to run into friends we hadn’t seen in a while and asked how they have been and they would reply, “Busy.” Well, it only took one pandemic to change that word. Maybe we can all look back and see if things that don’t really matter–busy making the most money work, busy impressing work, busy social media work, busy our body work, you name it… kept us from seeing what really matters.

In the Bible, Luke 10:4 Jesus visits the home of Mary and Martha, who are sisters. Martha was also busy. She was too busy to take time to enjoy Jesus. He was in her living room for goodness sake!! She was busy working and trying to impress Jesus and everyone around her. She wanted everything to be just right and everything was just right, except her motives.

Mary, on the other hand, seized the opportunity to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn. She knew the work would always be there, but Jesus would not. It’s vital to spend regular, quality time with God. Do not make the mistake of trying to work Him into your schedule, but make a decision to put Him first and work the rest of your schedule around your time with Him.

With all this extra time at home one of the best gifts you can give yourself is taking time to enjoy Jesus! The more time you spend learning about Him the more you gain strength, spiritual strength. Isaiah 40:31 tells that, “those who wait for the LORD [who expect, look for and hope in Him] will gain new strength and renew their power; they will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God ] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; they will run and not become weary. They will walk and not grow tired.”

Spending time studying God’s Word, praying, and fellowshipping with Him changes us and makes us strong enough to endure whatever challenges come our way. The truth of the matter is that we really cannot get along well at all unless we do this one thing that Jesus told Martha was so important. He told her there was need of only one thing and “Mary has chosen the good part.” (Luke 10:42)

Taking time to enjoy Jesus can be very simple. Pretend He is sitting in the chair across from you drinking coffee, maybe, and talk to Him like you would a friend. Don’t just complain or talk about what is wrong. There is a place for that but, also, because a friend wants to enjoy you and hear about your positive things too! They want to hear you love them and are thankful they are in your life. They want to hear you ask about them and what they enjoy. Jesus laughs, Jesus is risen and alive, and wants to give you comfort and joy that will take your breath away! Learn about Him. You are a spirit, He is a spirit, connect there!

Love you, Teri
