Betty Bennett

Good morning,

A wise women once told me that she puts problems that are too big for her to figure out in a closet on a high shelf in her mind and leaves them there for a while and lets God work them out. The visual of that is very helpful to me. It speaks of trust! Trust in God is what being a Christ follower is all about!

The wise women I am talking about is Betty Bennett. She is my husband’s mom. Betty just passed away in July at 88 years old. We buried her ashes yesterday under a tree at our ranch. With Covid-19, the family couldn’t have a funeral like we normally would have with hundreds of people coming and comforting each other over the loss of such a great lady. She touched so many people with her funny, witty way. She loved her family, friends, wait staff at her favorite restaurants–you name it, they loved her.

I asked her if I could pray for her on one of the last times I saw her and she wanted me to pray for her children. She called them her kiddos and she wanted them to have strength and comfort with her passing into heaven. She was not one bit afraid of death. She knew she was going to heaven with Jesus and she would see us all again one day. With seven children and many grandchildren and many great grandchildren, you can imagine the love multiplied in her heart.

As we stood under the tree yesterday, we all were sharing stories and one story Kathy told was how Betty loved to sit on a bench under this tree where her husband’s ashes were buried. One day she saw four bluebirds (her favorite bird) flying all around chasing and swooping in play. She thought it was the best thing!

After we walked away from the tree yesterday, it was raining and Kathy looked and saw a bluebird sitting on the bench under the tree and captured the moment with her camera. It felt like a little “God wink” letting us know Betty is still very much with us and all those she loves!

The Bible says that you can know the Word, go to church, have JESUS bumper stickers on your car, but if you don’t love…You never knew Me!

The best way to share Christ with anyone is to love them. Betty shared Christ! That is the best thing anyone could ever say about a Christian in my humble opinion.

Love you, Teri

  1. Another beautiful post! Teri, how can I get these to my mom? She has an email but does not do IG! She’s very frail, thin, on oxygen….
