Potato!

Good morning,

Does anyone else like potatoes? Steve and I had the best baked potato about a week ago: rock salt on the outside, fluffy on the inside, cooked just perfectly. Seriously, LOL, we need more to do because we talked about the awesome potato from a restaurant close to us for a good week! In contrast to that, have you ever smelled a rotting potato in your fridge or pantry? Worst smell ever!

I heard a sermon series on forgiveness that used a potato in such a great analogy! Think of any unforgiveness you are holding against someone like a potato and you write their name on it. Now carry it around with you everywhere you go. Never let it leave your side. Now, sadly some people have a sack of potatoes with names on them that they are carrying around every day. As they start to rot they get smelly, then grow shoots, then get slimy and ooze liquid, and get messier and nastier until you cannot stand it.

So what do you do?

So simple really. Throw the potatoes out! Get rid of that rotting sack of yuck!

Forgiveness is for you! It takes the burden off of carrying old, rotting thoughts and offenses and hurt around. You can stop rehearsing what you are polluting you body with and say, “Enough! I am no longer going to let this hurt me. I am forgiving with Christ’s help today.” Then forgive. You don’t have to hang around with the person who you are forgiving, but you can stop carrying around with you what they did. You can be free and have joy, peace, and hope. Jesus has forgiven and traded places with us and taken our punishment from all our sins. We can follow his lead and forgive.

Like the Lord’s prayer says: Forgive us our trespasses and we forgive those who trespass against us!

Love you, Teri
