Never Better!

Good morning,

I was having coffee with my mom and a few others on Saturday and we started listing “Bob Blader-isms.” Bob is my dad and he is the most positive person you will ever meet. He has just been through Covid-19 at 89 years old and is recovering really well. He is such a triumphant story! One of the things you see with him all the time is his positive words that he has spoken all his life, still coming out of his mouth no matter his circumstance. We have to learn this! What we speak matters to every cell in our body!

Bob-isms:

When asked, “How are you?” he always answers with a smile in his tone, “NEVER BETTER!” or “Wonderful, now that you are here!”

I remember him telling several of my friends when we were young teenagers having trouble with something, “Act the way you want to be and soon you will be the way you act.”

I walked in one day and it was raining and he was singing, “Showers of blessings.”

He did Bible study with us on Fridays for years and told us how his mom never wanted him to be afraid so she taught him every verse of Psalm 91 and he has faith, not fear. He completely trusts the word of God and can still recite that from memory–89 years later!

We believe what comes out of our mouth MORE than anyone else!

Ephesians 4:29 says, Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Jesus loves people! He knows what gives us joy, peace, hope, love!

My dad spent all his life enjoying it. Not everything that happened to him, but an attitude that flipped to finding the positive or he didn’t speak it out. His nickname is “Bubbly Bob” because his attitude is always bubbling out of him!

I try to never give my joy away! You know how I do that? By being dependent on Jesus. Praying for someone who is trying to discourage me. Having friends around me who are positive over my life. Being conscious of what words come out of my mouth and forgiving quickly.

When we give or bless people, it helps us way more than the receiver! Try saying this week every time someone asks you how you are, “NEVER BETTER!” It makes you laugh–and the person you say it to, too.

God knows how our bodies and minds work at optimal function. He tries to get things to us, not keep a score card to smack us!

Love you, Teri

  1. Teri, this is so beautiful about your Dad and his influence in your life. A lovely tribute. I am so grateful he is feeling better. I love the Bible quote you ended your message with. I only wish someone would have given our leader some bible quotes especially that one. ❤️🙏🏻 Stay well my friend. Sure hope we make it to Colorado this winter.
